Choosing Day Camp Software in Quebec: What to Check

What a Quebec day camp should check before choosing registration software: French, RL-24 slips, Law 25 and data location, pickup security and payments.

October 12, 20268 min read

A day camp in Quebec buys software under rules that camps in other provinces do not face: French on every screen, RL-24 slips for families, and Law 25 on where personal information goes. This checklist covers those first, then the points every camp should test before registration opens.

Campix is our product. Statements about other vendors come from their own websites, and statements about the rules come from government pages, all checked on October 6, 2026.

1. French on every screen families and staff use

Under the Charter of the French language, software sold in Quebec must be offered in French when a French version exists, and a business’s website must be available in French. The software rule is section 52.1 of the Charter of the French language. Test the registration form, the confirmation email, the receipt and the screens your staff use in French, not only the vendor’s website.

2. RL-24 slips

Revenu Québec requires everyone who provides paid childcare in Quebec to give parents an RL-24 slip, and fees paid to a day camp count toward the childcare tax credit. Ask each vendor whether the software prepares RL-24 slips, or at least gives you the amount paid for each child and by whom. Check your own situation with your accountant.

3. Where your families’ information is stored

Under Law 25, before personal information leaves Quebec you assess whether it will be adequately protected where it goes, and you put the arrangement in a written agreement. The Commission d’accès à l’information explains the assessment (in French). Ask each vendor where data is stored and for the information you need to complete the assessment.

4. Registration morning

Register a test family with two children on a phone before you sign. Check that both children go through in one payment, that full weeks offer a waitlist, and that a spot that opens up goes to the next family on the list. Ask whether parents must create an account before they register.

5. Weekly prices and discounts

Families pick the weeks they need. Set a price per week, a sibling discount and an early-bird price, then check the total a family with three children would pay.

6. Who may pick each child up

Ask how the form collects the people allowed to pick a child up, and what staff see at the end of the day. Ask the vendor to show you a departure that gets refused. A PIN, a password or a signature at departure adds a second check to the name on the list.

7. Health forms and medication

Your health form should ask your own questions, and allergies and medication should be in front of staff on the day. Ask whether medication given at camp can be logged.

8. Payments and taxes

Ask which payment methods families can use, including Interac, and whether a family can pay in installments. Ask your accountant whether your camp charges GST and QST, then check that the software lets you set your rate or none.

Other tools Quebec day camps compare

Amilia

Made in Montreal. Families create an Amilia account to register, and its help centre covers RL-24 slips. Amilia says data may be held in Canada, Quebec or the United States. Plans start at $99 a month, currency not stated, plus a 1% service fee on every invoice. Read our Amilia alternative guide.

Activity Messenger

Made in Montreal. Families register without an account, its day camp page lists RL-24 slips, and it says data is hosted in Quebec. It charges 1% on each card payment, minimum $0.25, on top of card fees. In March 2026 it took over Planitou’s day camp and overnight camp business. Read Campix vs Activity Messenger.

Common questions

Does a day camp in Quebec have to issue RL-24 slips?

Revenu Québec requires everyone who provides paid childcare in Quebec to give parents an RL-24 slip, and fees paid to a day camp count toward the childcare tax credit. Check your own situation with your accountant.

Can a Quebec camp use software that stores data outside Quebec?

Section 17 of the Quebec private-sector privacy act requires a privacy impact assessment showing the information will be adequately protected, and a written agreement, before personal information leaves Quebec. A camp run by a municipality follows the public-sector act instead. The Commission d’accès à l’information explains the assessment. Check your situation with your privacy officer.

What do families get for RL-24 and tax time?

A payment receipt for each paid registration, downloaded from the family portal. It shows the child, the amount and the dates. Prepare RL-24 slips from those amounts with your accountant.

Is Campix available in French?

Yes. The registration page, the family portal, the emails families receive and the staff screens are in English and French.
